Dr. James Carey is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with expertise in arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. He serves as Director of the Penn Center for Cartilage Repair and Osteochondritis Dissecans Treatment, Director of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship, and Head Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Philadelphia Flyers. He is also a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Carey’s clinical and research interests focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and advanced cartilage restoration techniques. He has been recognized nationally and regionally for his excellence in patient care, including listings in America’s Top Doctors and Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Docs.

He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, completed residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and pursued fellowship training in sports medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
