Dr. Daniel Green is Chief of the Pediatric Orthopedic Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and a world-renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee surgery for children and adolescents. He cares for patients from across the country and internationally, with expertise in patella dislocation, osteochondritis dissecans, discoid meniscus, tibial spine fractures, and pediatric ACL tears.
Dr. Green is committed to improving outcomes for young athletes through advanced surgical care, research, and education. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters focused on pediatric and adolescent knee surgery, and holds the Mary Kathryn and Alexander Navab Chair for Pediatric Orthopedic Research at HSS. He founded the Pediatric Sports Program at HSS and helped develop the Pediatric Orthopedic Clinical Research Program.
He has served as team physician for the USA Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Teams and the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), caring for athletes at the highest levels of competition, including national and Olympic teams. Many of his patients have gone on to compete in college and professional sports.
Dr. Green’s leadership extends across orthopedics, having served as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Past President of the New York County Medical Society, a charter member of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM), a board member of the Patellofemoral Foundation, and a member of the executive committee of the International Patella Study Group. He has also held numerous leadership and teaching roles within HSS, including election to the HSS Medical Board and recognition with the Philip D. Wilson Teaching Award.
