Prof. James Hui is Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at National University Hospital in Singapore and holds the Ling Chaw Ming Professorship in Orthopaedics at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, where he also serves as Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon with expertise in the care, rehabilitation, and surgical treatment of musculoskeletal problems in children.
His clinical focus includes developmental conditions such as hip dysplasia and dislocation, foot and spinal deformities, limb length discrepancies, and neuromuscular disorders including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and muscular dystrophy. In addition to his pediatric work, Prof. Hui also contributes to general orthopedics and the Healthy Ageing Programme at Alexandra Hospital.
Prof. Hui completed his medical degree and doctoral training at the National University of Singapore, followed by surgical and orthopedic training at National University Hospital and a pediatric orthopedic fellowship in Australia. He is a member of multiple professional societies, including the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association, and the Singapore Medical Association.
In addition to his leadership in clinical practice, Prof. Hui is an active researcher and Programme Leader of the NUS Tissue Engineering Programme (NUSTEP), with ongoing work in both clinical and basic science research. He is also deeply engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, mentoring the next generation of orthopedic surgeons in Singapore and beyond.
