Dr. Aaron Krych is a Professor of Orthopedics and Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also serves as a consultant in both the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in sports medicine, specializing in joint preservation of the knee and hip.

His clinical expertise includes ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair and transplantation, cartilage restoration, hip arthroscopy and preservation surgery, osteotomy, and treatment of shoulder instability. He frequently cares for young athletes with complex knee and hip injuries and is dedicated to helping patients of all ages return safely to activity.

Dr. Krych’s research focuses on biologic preservation and regenerative strategies for the knee and hip. His work includes innovations in living donor cartilage allograft transplantation, stem cell therapies for arthritis, and single-stage cell-based cartilage repair. He has led multicenter clinical trials, contributed to FDA phase I studies in regenerative medicine, and participates in international collaborations studying osteochondritis dissecans and other cartilage disorders.

He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, received multiple national and international research awards, and currently holds the John and Posy Krehbiel Professorship of Orthopedics Honoring Bernard F. Morrey, MD, at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Krych is also an elected Fellow of the Arthroscopic Association of North America (AANA) and serves on the AANA/AOSSM Specialty Day Board of Directors.

Through his clinical practice and research leadership, Dr. Krych is advancing strategies to preserve joint health, improve surgical outcomes, and delay or prevent joint replacement—particularly for young athletes with high-demand injuries.
