Dr. Matthew Milewski is an orthopedic surgeon in the Sports Medicine Division at Boston Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He specializes in the care of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult athletes with knee, shoulder, and patellofemoral disorders, with expertise in ACL injury, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), meniscal tears, shoulder instability, and injuries in throwing and performing-artist athletes. He contributes to multiple clinical programs, including the ACL Program, Throwers Clinic, and Performing Artist Athletes Program.
Dr. Milewski earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, completed orthopedic residency at Yale–New Haven Hospital, and pursued dual fellowship training in sports medicine at the University of Virginia and pediatric orthopedic surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery with subspecialty certification in sports medicine.
An active clinical investigator, Dr. Milewski’s research spans pediatric ACL epidemiology and outcomes, meniscus pathology, shoulder instability, and OCD of the knee. He serves in several multicenter consortia, including PLUTO (pediatric ACL), ROCK (osteochondritis dissecans), and SCORE (sports outcomes), with recent work addressing predictive models for OCD healing, psychological readiness after ACL reconstruction, and treatment patterns in pediatric shoulder and meniscus surgery. His publications appear in leading journals such as The American Journal of Sports Medicine, Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation, and JBJS Open Access.
