Samuel Clifton Willimon, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, cartilage preservation, and advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow. He completed his fellowship at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, training under internationally recognized leaders in sports medicine, before returning to Atlanta to build a practice dedicated to athletes of all ages.

Dr. Willimon has extensive experience caring for professional, Olympic, collegiate, and youth athletes. He currently serves as Medical Director of the Atlanta United Academy teams and as team physician for the Atlanta United First Team, East Cobb Yankees, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, and Atlanta Ballet. He is also a preferred provider for the U.S. Soccer Federation.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Willimon collaborates with the Georgia Institute of Technology on cartilage research and leads Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in several national multicenter study groups. He also serves as a consulting associate in the Duke University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, contributing to research and training in pediatric and young adult sports medicine.

His areas of expertise include arthroscopic hip reconstruction, complex knee ligament and cartilage repair, shoulder instability, and sports-related trauma. Beyond medicine, Dr. Willimon values time with his family and outdoor pursuits.
