Jennifer M. Weiss, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine. She serves as Assistant Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and Regional Lead for Pediatric Orthopedics for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. Clinically, she cares for children and adolescents with sports injuries and growth-related conditions, and she teaches communication and shared-decision skills to physicians and care teams across her health system.
A national leader and advocate for women in orthopedics, Dr. Weiss has served on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directors and is the AAOS Communications Cabinet Chair. She frequently lectures on surgeon wellness, mindful practice, and workforce diversity (“My Mom, the Surgeon”), and on practical musculoskeletal care for parents, coaches, and teachers. Her scholarly work spans pediatric sports injuries and health-system quality; she contributed to the AAOS clinical practice guideline on osteochondritis dissecans and served on the executive committee of the ROCK multicenter study group.
Dr. Weiss completed medical school at Mount Sinai, orthopedic residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and a pediatric orthopedics fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/USC. A mentor, speaker, and visible “voice for women in medicine,” she works to expand opportunity in orthopedics while helping young athletes and families navigate safe return to activity.
